Comics, you mean. "Graphic novels" are comics for grown-ups.:)

This was awhile ago when you posted it AJ, but I gotta clear this up.

Comics are those three dollar little paper books that have about fifty pages.
Graphic Novels are the big sturdy books with usually more than two hundred pages. Costing from ten to twenty dollars and up.

Which is only consistent with the "for grown-ups" bit, isn't it? I'm not saying the format isn't a bit more grown-up as well: the style is usually different, they have a few more pages and are a bit more expensive, but that hardly changes anything about the fact they're essentially still telling a story in pictures. If you call that a novel, you might as well call Batman a collection of graphic short stories. As far as I remember, when the first "graphic novels" came out, they were referred to as comics. The "graphic novel" tag was added later, when those type of grown-up comics became more popular.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with reading comics as a grown-up, but labelling them "novels" is just a little ridiculous in my opinion.

Anyway, this is a discussion about anime, about which I know nothing at all, so I'll stay out of it.

FWIW, I'd consider collections (a few hundred pages long) of comics like Spiderman and those daft superheroey ones to be rather different entities from those aimed squarely at adults like Preacher, Sandman, Lucifer and other less mainstream ones, which I'd refer to as graphic novels. The reason that term is used is mainly because the word "comic" connects in most peoples' minds to the stereotypical image of the nerdy Marvel or DC fan still living in his parents' basement at age 32, able to quote you the entire dialogue of any given Star Trek episode just from the episode number but unable to relate in the slightest way to women, and those of us who happen to think that some comics ought to be regarded as art in the same way that serious novels are (you wouldn't describe trashy holiday novels as art, but the word "novel" doesn't immediately conjure up an image of a woman in her late tewnties reading nothing but books about shopping for kitten heels and shagging the doorman).

Didn't we have this discussion once already?

I, also, know little about anime (and certainly can't distinguish between that and Manga - or is that a particular type?) but I enjoyed Ghost in the Shell. I'm always amazed how much some people get into it, though (like Moogle apparently is).

Manga is the graphic novel/comic form of anime (usually higher quality line art, too, but that tends to happen when you animate something by hand-drawing, though there are definitely some animes that beat down manga quality, and some mangas that aren't really very well drawn). Many animes start out as manga before they're made into anime. Not all, but a lot.

Only cosplayer I've ever seen that doesn't look completely stupid was some big guy dressed as Torque from The Suffering, and the only reason it worked is because it was a very simple costume.

I hate cosplayers.

I've seen in some cases lots of effort going into costumes and some people actually pulling off the look pretty well overall, and others not so much, not easy to do but give props to the ones who put a lot of effort into it.

I saw two cosplayers in Nintendo Power that looked really good, some guy and his girlfriend dressed as the guy and the chick from XX/XY on the DS with that same black cell shaded look.
It was very unique and well done.

Ah I know exactly the pic ya mean, saw the same pic in Nintendo Power, very unique and honestly something I never would have imagined could be done, but it looked like a lot of effort went into it.

even if they say, we'll never make it
even if they tell us to give up
even if they think, they could break it
I'm telling you they won't
we'll fight forever
they all don't like the picture
of you and me together
I think they're just worried
'cause together we're so strong
it's like a fusion- we're only one body
we're one body and one soul

we go on searching just the perfect tones
(yeah we'll find them)
we keep on finding words, creating songs
and one day we will feel that it is done
(so sweet)
believe me now, that we are on the run

once we will write it
the most beautiful song (dudududu)
we will conquer the world
with my hum (dudududu)
let us turn our story to a poem
and with it grow into one

In case you haven't noticed, theres a difference between a good costume and a cardboard box.
