Thank God it's not just me, then...

It's great when you actually get playing, especially with the Absolute Annihilation mod.

I think it's safe to assume that the net-code sucks majorly.

Supreme Commander, the spiritual successor to Total Annihilation, has gotten a near-completion preview by Gamespot.

Probably, I don't think they'll limit that to Vista only, it will hurt sales too much, the only reason Halo 2 is doing it is because it's already popular enough.

It works on XP, but my graphics card hates it and sadly UFO : Enemy Unknown too.

I've run it on XP with no problems whatsoever - definitely worth hunting down, it's ace. If you can get the Core Contingency addon too, snap it up - that's harder to find and adds a TON of stuff to the game.

Heh, thanks to you guys and this topic, I nabbed me a copy of this game off eBay. Never played it, and it looks really good. I played TA: Kingdoms, and it was fairly good, but Im betting this is better ^^

Kingdoms was a hugely diappointing follow up - I'm betting Supreme Commander's going to get me excited about RTSs again though (and maybe Rise of Legends).

Mmm? I loved Kingdoms, it was scaled down, but still fun.

Bleh. It was so horribly, horribly unbalanced. Aramon ALWAYS wins, simply because their units are beefed up to counterbalance their lack of magic.

Veruna were alright, and Taros were also quite good too, due to them having their own little abilities.

But then you get Zhon, which were god-awful. Their units were either utter pap (Gryphons, for example) or massively overpowered (stone giants and hunters, for example).

Plus they didn't have walls, which was the sole redeeming feature for Veruna and Taros - in that they could make truly horrible defences, due to most units not even being able to attack walls.

The problem with Kingdoms (and Absolute Annihilation) is, since there's only about two different unit production buildings, you only end up using the best unit in the tier since all the other units offer no strategic advantages, they're the same unit with a different texture slapped on and less hit points. Plus the gap between the fodder crap and the all-powerful dragon/orcane/drogoth is so huge, you either win with a peewee rush, or with a vulcan or another of those super superweapons. Despite all the flaws, TA is still my favorite RTS, due to the huge scale that rewards strategy rather than micro-managing

(sry bout the double post) Here's a "relooker" as the website calls it, providing better unit models. haven't had time to look at it, but it doesnt seem too bad
