They have a danger level (I think the one you're on about Prej is actually level 5 - from the mayor in the outpost?) - if you can survive that dungeon level you may as well do the quest for the stuff; some of the later ones will probably give truly ace items (the early ones are helpful but not great). Of course, the 2 quests you start with are your ultimate objective :)

What kind of Zangband are you guys playing? The only one I tried were a pure dungeonbasher without any city hall etc. *I think*

The TK graphical variant - basically Zangband 2.8 I think. There's much more recent builds - the TK variant stopped getting updated.

The bandits one is pretty easy - there's usually a couple of bandits and some novice rogues, and if they nick your money there's nowhere for them to run off to (not like bloomin' Robin Hood grrr) so you get it back, and the mayor gives you something worth having in return. The next quest he gives you is a bit tougher but worth loads of experience - incidentally, that's the only time I've ever encountered Wargs - maybe they're unique to that quest?

Edit: Nope, they can be summoned by other monsters. That answers that one.

Hmm I'm not sure, I've never really done a single quest, I just build my characters up a lot and then venture down and expire. The vampire died at level 26 and was then annihilated by some kind of dragonny thing.

The Wargs one is just in the dungeon anyway, so you might as well do it (though if you take it on you have to do it in order to get any deeper...)

Not really, so long as you don't let a few surround you. Might be harder for a magey type.

Yeah, but I play a warrior, monk or chaos warrior every time. Mages are too fiddly and weedy IMO.

Read them. And weep most of the time.
