It's been over six long months of dedicated, at times daunting, and ultimately triumphant work...and COR Entertainment at last announces the release of Alien Arena 2009!

You've seen the screenshots, the videos, now it is time to face the alien invasion head on, armed to the hilt with disruptors, beamguns, and vaporizors. The amount of improvements to the game engine are staggering. The game comes alive with the full implementation of GLSL per-pixel lighting on all surfaces, OpenAL audio system, and new gameplay features. Optimization was as always, another aspect that we've addressed. No longer does one have to be leary of cranking the settings up, the game plays remarkably faster with the switch to GLSL for per-pixel operations. Alien Arena has transformed into a lean, clean, fragging machine, with stunning visual effects that are usually reserved for commercial titles. This isn't your daddy's Alien Arena - it's not even last year's model, with a host of new and improved maps, sounds and music.

Some of the new features in this release:
  • GLSL per-pixel lighting on all surfaces.
  • OpenAL 1.1
  • Ogg-Vorbis support.
  • GLSL post process framebuffer effects.
  • New scoreboards.
  • New HUD.
  • Stereo music files.
  • Seven new maps and two new player characters.
  • Light volumes.
  • Voice taunt system.
  • Doppler sound effects.

"COR Entertainment announces the latest release of it's freeware, open sourced FPS shooter, Alien Arena 2008!

Version 7.20 features a host of improvements, optimizations, and new features such as the implementation of per-pixel GLSL effects including parallax, normal and specular mapping/highliting, occlusion culling of entities, shader performance boosts, new and improved weapon/event effects, and much more. The end result is a game that not only looks great, but also runs considerably faster than previous releases.

On the gameplay aspect, a brand new reward system has been implemented, allowing players to choose from three powerups when reaching a certain achievement total. Weapons have received further balancing, powerup effects made more smooth, and various bugs have been squashed. Several brand new levels have been added, as well as player skins that improve visibility and an HUD based weapon inventory.

Hi guys - official press release and a review on linux.com!

COR Entertainment, LLC has released Alien Arena 2007 6.10, a blockbuster, monumental version of this free, open source engined game!

Linux.com has reviewed version 6.10 ( http://www.linux.com/feature/119775 ) stating that it "Blows away it's FPS competition" and with good reason!

Version 6.10 features seven, brand new, sizzling maps, new duel mode for 1v1 action, netcode and security improvements, signifigant renderer optimizations and enhancements, and an all new scaled GUI.  However, the big story with version 6.10 besides the stunning new content, are the major changes in gameplay.  New features such as spawn protection, faster weapon respawns, a new health and ammo system, have been augmented by a brand new weapon - the frightening Violator!  The weapons themselves are now more balanced and responsive, with features that now allow for additional trick jumping techniques.  On the client side, input is now perfectly smooth, and the scaled HUD and fonts make for a more polished looking product, and best of all, the implementation of http dowloading of custom content via CURL means no more long waits to join servers while downloading new levels!

I don't like much shoot'em'up fps's, but I tried this long ago and I think it is very well done and I couldn't find anything to really complain, except the genre.
