Solar Winds... I remember playing that thing almost nine years ago. But as far as I know it's one of Apogee's "We-won't-let-you-have-it-abandonware-cranks" games.
Anybody on the way to tell these guys few sentences?

Actually, I requested "Solar Winds" on AR, but nevermind
Yeah, I know that Solar Winds are still being sold- but I was wondering if maybe , jsut maybe, somebody would call Apogee and ask them to release it from sales. I mean, how much money do they get from it?
As for Apogee- Epic, I think they were somehow connected at a time.

I understood you perfectly, Sinke, but since this game clearly isn't freeware now and is unlikely to turn freeware anytime soon, there is not much point in keeping this in the requests forum, is there? Discussions about games you would like to be freeware belong in the favourites forum.

And it is Epic MegaGames that is still selling Solar Winds, not Apogee.
Had it been Apogee, then the game would probably be released as freeware at some time. Apogee isn't such a dark company like everyone seems to believe.
Apogee Freeware games:
And even if it hadn't been sold, Epic still doesn't like to make their games free for everybody. So, it is highly unlikely it would be made freeware at all.

You are right, it is Epic Megagames. I don't know why I forgot that.
However, I found a site which sells Epic's games, some of them on your list signed as freeware. I don't know much about it.....
Epic classics
Well anyway, I hope one day I'll have SW on my laptop. They don't make them that way anymore....

Fixed your link for you. One "http://" is enough

It's true that EpicClassics sells some of the games listed above - like Castle of Winds. But the company has released them as freeware.
http://epicgames.com/EpicClassics.html
That's why.
Somewhere in a basement, there is a guy who sells these games - and since he isn't affiliated with Epic in any way, he keeps selling any copies of their games. Freeware or not

Here's the game Castle of the Winds (both episodes), directly downloadable from the creator's homepage:

That's why there is this thing.
- If a game is sold - it links you to the store, with the item already highlighted.
- If the game is freeware - it links you to a download location (in most cases).
- If the game is either on AB or AR - it links you to the game page.
- If the game isn't any of the above - it links you to an infopage about the game so you can look at screenshots and read reviews. Most common is a link to MobyGames.
