Keep in touch and let us know your impressions of Norway and, well, every little detail.      ;)
You should probably leave the "little" out of there. :bye:

Sorry, I know that was pretty lame, but I couldn't help myself. :)

Anyway, glad you made it there safely Tai. I hope you'll enjoy yourself.
Furthermore, it is my opinion that Carthage must be destroyed.

@Flop: I doubt Tom will want to participate in sending you a postcard after that :P ;)

Thanks everyone :bye:

So far, it's been a lot of fun... we went for a walk in the incredibly hilly Norwegian countryside, and had a pizza at a weird little pub restaurant with slot machines (apparently everyone here is addicted).

Tom lives right next to a castle that is no longer there, that used to be the King of Trondheim/Norway (he thought maybe both, but wasn't sure, hehe). So we're going to investigate that, as well as the Norway Folk Museum in Trondheim, which is also very close.

But today, we're going shopping for birthday goodies, whee.

And his mom made an awesome kiwi+tangerine torte, mmm. And a nut cake of some sort. Lots of yummies. :)

Hummies, has there been many castles? If not, then it most likely has been of Norwegian kings. King, who's name I can't recall, moved the capital to Bergen in 13th century and Norway had been unified something like four centuries earlier and Trondheim (wasn't called that then) was capital before Bergen.

Hardly. It was a Norwegian king, remember?:) And as far as I know "Sverre" is pronounced more like "Svarre", so they don't even sound all that similar. I may well be wrong about that, though...

I'd say it's pronounced more like Svaerre and thereby quite close actually. Corrections? Anyways, it has absoutely nothing to do with Sverige's name.

I believe Sweden has it's name from the province svealand and the Swedish word for realm. Svearike. At some point that became Sverige. I may be wrong, though.

@Tai (and Tom): I'm sure Tom can take a little joke, lame as it may be. I would hate not to have Tom be a part of sending me the postcard. :)

Nope back in the 13th century Svearna more or less had the power. Svea rike (rike = kingdom/realm) when spoken quickly became Svearige and later Sverige.

I'm glad to hear your first day was such good fun :) I'll cross my fingers for more of such days (but not while typing, obviously. That's pretty impractical to do with crossed fingers) Be sure to report regularly :bye:
