Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic.

First RPG I ever really got into, great story and characters.

Turn based combat was pretty neat too!

Probably KOTOR, I loved how your in game decisions actually affected the outcome of the game significantly, like when you have to decide which one of your party members would die.

KOTOR was indeed very nicely done, wouldn't call it original in those senses though, Deus Ex did the same with decision making and there was a ps1 rpg done by Konami that did the whole choosing if you want to have a character live or die sort of idea.

And KOTOR is just like NWN, just a heavily modded version of the engine.

Think another rpg that should be mentioned is Final Fantasy 4, especially it's timing when it was released in 91, had the makings and influence on later rpgs with some aspects story, characters and more.

ZangabandTK is awsome. It's more user friendly than ADOM I think. And I actually have managed to level up in it. :)

May not be one of the most recognized, but always thought Secret of Mana was a great game. With it's real time fighting and 2 other characters, and the fact you could have 3 players play in the game too in battles, that was innovative for the time on the consoles.

Fallout 2. Torment comes close though.

Agreed. I can think of a few more which come close. The Baldurs Gate games are great, imo, so is the first Fallout.

Also working on my own little RPG (roguelike), but I'm still on the engine part.

Interesting. Be sure to tell us more about it when you're ready. :)
Furthermore, it is my opinion that Carthage must be destroyed.

Indeed the Baldurs Gates ones are classic, always liked the first one, not the console ones though, granted those were entirely different.

Lord of the rings: Third age is quite nice. Sure the battle system isn't innoative, sure it's a tube(a very pretty tube), but I like the story, in some crude way.

Earthbound mentioned earlier, reason being because it changed the whole seriousness of rpg's and fantasy idea with a modern setting, anyone who has played it know what I means, definitely one of the top ones on the snes.

Wouldn't be too hard to find I imagine, and maybe could luck out with a cheap price.
