What is the general rule concerning platforms on this site? Will the site accept reviews for games which are only supported on some platforms or will you take em all?

I'm asking since there are some games that are ONLY available on Linux, BSD, Mac OS etc. since these have a smaller crowd of followers that Windows I thought I should ask.

Example of games only supported on Unix based platforms would be:

Wormux
Pingus
Miniracer

There are loads more of them out there...

Hehe, that's why I'm asking since 95% of the members here are probably "Windows only" users. So I'll understand why the site would accept Windows only games, but for the other games...

Btw, I'm dual booting XP and Gentoo so I play both sides, but I prefer Gentoo.

What "gq" ???

good question. if there's a demand for it i can't see why we wouldn't host games for linux/unix etc.

Since I haven't gotten any negative responses I won't hesitate to post "Linux only" games if I find any that look interesting.

The site is about quality freeware, not quality Windows freeware...
Allthough most of the times the really good linux games get ported to win32 in the end... look at TuxRacer. It would be to cruel to keep this supergame from the M$ community... wheee look at that little fella slide  :)

It's a really good question. Untill recently I wasn't aware that linux games could be run in wiindows (thanks Mdag  :) ). Knowing that just makes this question all the more relevant (for me at least).

I'd like to know Kosta's opinion. Will we be seeing freeware games for other platforms than windows on AR?
Furthermore, it is my opinion that Carthage must be destroyed.

They can only be run in Windows if they've been ported to do so, but as MdaG says that's pretty common for the better ones.

You're right of course. I misunderstood Mdag's post (not being into the linux jargon and actually understanding what was meant by distribution). I was under the impression that it was a kind of emulator, when in fact it's the OS itself. I'm not about to create a dualboot system, it's simply too much hassle. But, as you say, it seems that a lot of linux games get ported to windows.

The question still stands, thoguh: Will AR be hosting non-windows games?

Dual booting isn't that hard, but unless you really want to run Linux I don't see the point. Most games are ported to Windows which already has the biggest amount of games.

We're already hosting a review of some - Frozen Bubble and Tux Racer (both of which have been ported to Windows) - and a lot of the things mentioned in the up-and-coming section are Linux games. We're having a bit of discussion about it behind the scenes too; we'll have to see what Kosta says.

Feel free to keep suggesting them in the forum either way though, since if you post a link in there people who are interested can check them out.

What about Mac games? There is probably at least a worthwhile Mac freeware community, and I'd imagine that most of the programmers would be hesitant to port games to Windows. Not to say that they're anti-Windows, but as far as I know, that would be a lot of work.

There are some good Mac emulators out there... Well, I know there are for older Macs, at least.
