Shadowflare: Episode One
(2001) By Denusha Co., Ltd.

This game can best be described as a “Isometric Hack & Slash with RPG Elements”, somewhat in the vain of Diablo II.
It is unusual in that while made by a Japanese Developer, is has a mostly WRPG like feel.
Part of a series of three games/episodes, the Shadowflare: Episode One was released as Freeware in 2003, as a marketing ploy for the other games.
The game is tedious at times, but is probaly well worth giving a try.

Seems like a typical hack and slash RPG, adequately executed. I like the post-apocalyptic setting, and maybe in the next episodes this is exploited better, but episode 1 doesn't start with a really intriguing premise. It's classical "protect the town from invading monsters" fare. What I do like is the dog companion. An interesting idea. Not sure if the initial set up is motivating enough for me to continue playing from the first 30 minutes. It will stay on my hard disc however.

Played it for 2 more hours. Not sure it's gonna happen. To much gameplay padding in my opinion.
