Sorry for doubleposting, but I just reached level 12 after blasting my way through a place called The Wall!

Holy smokes! If you ain't got a Rocket Launcher with loads of rockets, don't even bother with that level. I think there was 4 Hell Barons, and 6 or 8 Hell Knights :D

That was seriously the most difficult level so far... I am really dreading when I'll meet an Arachnotron

'rapid' is a special, rare modifier.  There are a few of them.  Any weapon that appears yellow on the ground has a rare modifier, and is at least potentially a priceless find.

A rapid combat shotgun.. I am consumed bv envy.

I had a rapid rocket launcher once.  Made it down to level 12 that game.

I've been busy playing Mount & Blade lately, so haven't played since

@Tom: It is ridiculously difficult level! But what I remember, you can pass it without killing all monsters. It's been for a while I last played the game, but if I remember correctly Plasmagun works fine against Hell Barons /-Knights. And again, as in any game, try to take them out one by one.

Has anyone had a really hard time in the beginning? I haven't gotten a character past level 3. If anyone could give me any pointers, that'd be a big help!

The best tip I can give you is to use the shotgun you get from the first level - until you get hold of the Combat shotgun. From then on, you should have it fairly easy.

The best way to survive is to use the best weapons available and always try to use some kind of armor. (Green is the worst, then blue and red is the best.)

Of traits, I recommend Cateye and Reloader as your first two

I think the shotgun spreads to much. I (somehow) found red armor (100%), 2 rocket launchers, and steel toed boots on level 2 and yet i still died the same level by a former sarge. I lose at least 15% health on the first level then i usually die on the next level. ARG!

Do you pick up the medkits? There are 4 medkits on the first level (all of which you should be able to pick up, if you move quickly), with an additional 2 placed behind the second door.

Remember that running head first into danger is the worst thing you can do. Let them come to you, and pick them off one by one.

Boots help you walk on acid and lava (without taking too much damage) :D

One tip, though. As you have limited carrying slots, I'd recommend you drop the pistol after getting the chaingun, and don't bother with the knife at all - and also put that armor on the second you pick it up. That's three item slots just there

I thought, all levels would be different each time you start a new game? Or is the first Level (or all levels) always the same?

Havenīt played a rogue-like so far. Thatīs why I ask this question. But iīll test this one this weekend.

The first level is always the same, and the special levels as well (like The Chained Court, The Halls of Carnage, The Hell's Armory, Hell's Arena, The Wall, The Spider's Lair, etc...). :D

The last level is identical in the fact that you meet the final boss as the only enemy

The rest of the levels are completely random, and you might find that you sometimes have to cross lava or acid to reach the next elevator.

The first level is always the same, it's the levels after that which are randomised.
