Lice tend to be breeding creatures - you need to kill them off with area effect spells, nab them when there's only 1 or 2 or just wade through them if you're not going to get injured too much. If you've got any stinking cloud or pesticide spells/items that should help (big blasts) - Rods of Pesticide are really nifty items in Zangband.

oh you might want to set the option "point based charcter generation" (or whatever). that way you get to decide what stat is raised... that way you can make you troll as strong as he should be and so on... you actually get lower stat values like this but i think its still worth it  :)

Im level 7 going through exploring Barrow Downs right now. Money is kinda scarce, but 2 hints for early money.

a) Do the thieves quest, they drop money and sometimes one drops a dagger you can sell for $$$

:) keep any corpses you find. They ARE heavy, yes, but press "h" (lowercase) and cut the corpses up into slices of meat, then drop the meatless corpse. You get like 50-70 slices of meat from one corpse, and they sell for 1 gold each. May not seem like much, but it's a quick and easy way to get money, plus you can eat the slices of meat (make sure it's not kobold, or something nasty sounding, it'll poision you. Human corpses are ok to eat) and then you don't have to buy food. Also if you find a potion of salt water, you can cure the meat and have it last a lot longer, but I dunno if cured meat sells for more. (havent found a saltwater potion yet)

that dagger is always worth $$$... its always a *good* item. if you set it to do 98 quests you wont be selling meat believe me ;)

when in the shops there will be a number in brackets to the top right. that is the MAX amount of cash they will give you for an item no matter how much its worth...its never higher than 30 000 though.  now if you start to sell those items that the princess gives you (lets say your a swordmaster and she gives you an axe) and the store owner is set to sell for more than 10 000... then you will not even worry about the gold that monsters drop... ive (this is no joke) have cleared the barrow downs (only 10 levels) and made more than 100 000 gold  :)

Which scrolls are recall scrolls? What's their "magic"-name?

What's a scroll of rumor?

All those things like rods and scrolls and potions NEED to be identified. the "magic" name
is random and different from game to game.

if you play theme you dont have to identify the scroll of recall though because you always start with one.

scrolls of rumour are nothing but a message stored in a text file in the tome dirctory. they can be tips or anti tips or just stupid crap ;)
sometimes shopkeepers will whisper something in your ear that comes from the same text file... i like this one:

"The shopkeeper whispers in your ear: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

:) ;)

once you hit level 50 sure... you cant go any farther anyways and they can REALLY help you out. otherwise i dont use them  :)

the higher your monster lore skill the more you get from thier kills.

you can (kinda) command them using "P"

VERY good.... that ring is a always a ring of invisiblity... now you can do the dog quest without them knowing your there (they will still attack sometimes if your right next to them)

it also shows your getting better... smeagol is a punk for unexperienced players

I just ID the ring. It sure is a ring of invisibility. It doesn't say if it's got any charges so I guess it's permanent. So... shall I put it on? Are there any disadvantages with being invisible?
