We have had some success with this kind of thread on Abandonia, so I decided to make one here.
HERE ARE THE RULES:

1 a person who has the turn ("turnholder") must describe a game that is:
1.1 freeware.
1.2 there's a link to it somwhere on this site (or forum). it should be possible to get to the game's download page trough that link without using google :)

2 if someone guesses what the game is (it is up to to turn holder whether to accept incomplete answers), he gets to have the turn.

3  there are several ways turn can be transfered without guessing:
3.1 If the person who guessed does not respond within 24 hours of the confirmation anyone can claim the turn.
3.2 If the person who currently holds the turn does not post anything in 48 hours (in this thread) anyone can claim the turn, unless that person specifically states the time when he wil be back, in which case turn can be claimed at that time.
3.3 the turnholder may vouluntarily forfeit his turn, in which case anyone can claim the turn.

(as always- if you think rules are unfair, or that I forgot something post about it)

Ok, my turn.

This is an epic masterpiece that revolutionized and rejuvenated it's genre in much the same way as Baldur's Gate did almost a decade later. The game sports puzzles imaginative and logical far beyond the usual (for that time) "find the key" and use on the right door. The story is somewhat slim (find the big bad bad guy and kill him/her), but the atmosphere more than makes up for it and has kept many players up all night trying to get past a certain door or trap or...

*edit*

... it was also one of the first games to simulate a 3D environment (now I made it too easy).

*edit*

... I should also mention that the game I'm looking for is a remake of the game that I described above.

*edit*

... it also spawned a sequel and lots of copycats by other developers, many of which are featured on Abandonia...  :)

Zangband doesn't have any puzzles as far as I know (so not that one).
White Chamber hasn't revolutionized anything as far as I know (so not that one either).  :)

If you're talking about Elder Scrolls: Arena, then no sorry, that's not the one.

*edit*

Not that far off though. It wasn't one of the first to simulate 3D, but I succeeded far better that the game I'm thinking of.

Enemy Territory? Nope.

No revolutionizing, not one of the first to simulate 3D, no big bad guy, no puzzles...

actulaly all of the above.
first 3D shooter, Dr. Giftmacher, and find the key puzzles (doesn't fit here).
plus it's not a remake, but a sequel (and here)
