As the title says, a great flight sim which is <20MB, no texture polygon only so people with outdated computers/laptops may enjoy, there's literarly Hundreds of add-on planes which fans made, though a good 1/2 of the sites are Japanese, you gotta seen some of those Anime addons like Gundam Yukikaze, Studio Ghibli, and Robotech..
There's also a realism mod which tweaks the aircraft config files for more realistic rolerates and ammo,

Good fun for that 10min ( or 1 hr) quick flight when you want to just blast stuff in the sky.
THe author is sitll actively updating, so more goodness to come
On a side note, there's also Meteor, a good top-down shooter, used to spend hours on it while visiting relatives' place
Militarily themed campaign structured missions with plenty of weapons and good AI (both friendlies And enemies), one of the few games where you will not be fighting alone all of the time.
Author in the process of completing the sequel which will feature drivable vehicles and sector-based map editiong, shall be awesome I think

On the other hand, another promising freeware simulation style game: Operation Cleaner 2
Where you take control of a demolition company and have to manage your finances while taking care of the actual dirty work of placing demo charges and watching the thing blow.

An award winning entry in the 2004 Summer RemakeCompetition, top-down racing game with Le Mans 24, Rally, Stock Car (as in street car), and also Formula racing where you can design your car from pre-set cars, a whole lotta track, pitting options, damage, fuel, good stuff. PS since it's still WIP some graphics hasn't been updated, but I must say, very polished game even now.
