I don't know if you're aware of this... It made my eyes pop when I saw Giana Sisters ported for PC, then I saw it's a freeware remake... Just the thing for this place - GIANA SISTERS! It's exactly the same as Super Mario Brothers and it was a kult game for C64 and Amiga (the fans are still arguing who stole the idea from whom - MARIO vs GIANA).
Anyway I just thought you might wanna know.

Super Mario Bros 1: 1985
Great Giana Sisters: 1987
I'd say Great Giana Sisters stole from Super Mario. I believe they've been sued for that, back in the days, too.
...
Apparently, the sueing's correct

I remember those. The music of Giana sisters on my C64.
Actually, the problem was that somebody made Super Mario game for C64, somebody called Abyss. I don't know was it a company or group of people doing it for fun. I am pretty sure that game was never official from Nintendo. Then those people who made Giana Sisters just took all their graphics and levels, but changed main characters.
I think I read before that it was the other way around, that this "Abyss" took over Giana Sister game and turn it into Super Mario. Those days, Super Mario was played on 8-bit console known , at least in Europe, as "Micro Genious". As far as I know, the next thing from Nintendo was their original NES, fighting with Sega's Master System.

One can always get mocked for being polite.
