To celebrate the 12th anniversary of Command and Conquer's release, the original Command & Conquer Gold has been offered on EA's site as a free 1GB download together with instructions on how to get the game working on PCs with Windows XP installed.

Thanks for the information MrMr.   ;)

But is this free download only for September, or is it a permanent thing?  If it is a free download for September only, then I'm not sure if we can put it on site.   :P

As far as I understand they are celebrating the 12th anniversary during the september, beginning it with release of C&C Gold. So I believe it isn't limited for the september only.
...70 years... LOL

I found the answer...

Isonide, the download is pretty self explanatory. I will not say "cracked", this is just a free version of the full game that you can play for free.

We will only be offering this during the month of September as well, just FYI.

Its part of the celebration month, a limited time download if you will :o)

Be nice to us for a change and i'll pat your back as well.

I already have C&C the first decade. C&C is awesome though and well worth the download.

I've been playing through Red Alert 2, so I have a feeling that if I try this one it will hurt. I'm also wondering if there would be anyway to get rid of the useless stuff and make it not such a big download...1.2 GB is a little too big for me. I understand Far Cry, but not an old game that ran on Windows 95.
I have been informed that today is, in fact, opposite day, and what you've written there is absolutely true so you should probably just go.

Even still, the game came with movies which chunked up the games size quite a bit, which were around 400-500 megs for each cd, so its actually understandable it'd be that big.

*sticks hand up*  Me!  I don't own it.  I had a demo for it years ago, and found it very boring.   :P
