Yup, that's true, it emulates soundblaster soundcards(IIRC).

actually it emulates a full blown pc. (with various soundcards and various graphic cards)
(and a bios and vga bios and mouse driver and a DOS 5.0 compatible OS)

Perhaps a little spammy post, but I can't resist it: Oh man, I have to re-thank you for the Dosbox! Without it, I couldn't play one of the greatest games ever made, the game I'm currently playing: Panzer General. So: Thank. You. Qbix. 
Btw, for some reason now my computer can handle dosbox so well, that the sounds play perfectly in PG. Even better.
