Heh the topic title pretty much says it.
Do you believe in ghosts? Or spirits, or whatever you choose to call it?
Met one?

Are they here to scare us, protect us or to live in harmony with us? Or aren't they here?

I personally don't know what to think. I've never seen one myself, BUT, my sister. She doesn't remember it, but me and my family do.
When she was young, she always saw something in the livingroom of mom's friend. My sis would lie on a blanket there, on the floor, and giggling and waving her hands, like someone was playing with her. Even though everybody else stood away. This was the only place she did this. She would laugh so sincerely, it was rather creepy.

Similar happened to mom's sister when she was a kid. She couldn't enter a certain room in my great grandmother's house, she would just freak out. Just couldn't enter it. Every other rooms were okey for here, and this one was nothing different.

When my best friend was a kid, he used hang out with his great grandfather that lived with him. The old man would sit in his chair and they would chat and play with Lego. Then one day, the old man wasn't there. Days passed. My friend went to his mom: "Mommy, I miss great grandpa!"
She: "What do you mean, sweety, you never met him!"
He: "Yes I did, he lived with us!"
She asked him to describe the man and tell her his name. It fitted. He was describing his great grandfather that died in 1987. My friend was born in 1989.
His mom freaked out and started going through photo-albums, but she had no photos of him. Neither did anyone in the family.
The mother always thought he was just making the lego guys talk together. She didn't realize he was actually talking to someone else. (Or was he?)

I personally believe these stories. I don't think my mom would lie, and this friend of mine would never make up anything like this.
So what I'm started to think, is that some children are more sensitive to those things than other. But still I can't be sure. Why some kids but not other? Why only kids? When / why do they grow over it?

I'd like to get some of your opinions!!

Do I believe, definatly yes
Have I encountered one, definatly yes

I think many coexist and can be quiet, some are harmful and some are helpful, kind of like people.  Not everyone is a Saint but they all aren't Jack the Ripper either.

I could ramble alot of stories and such, but I think the worst experiance I had was being in the attic of my friends house (the place had alot of creepy stuff going on for years)  When I was packing up things for him to move, I had the lightbulb next to my head burst and when I was in the dark I felt something like a cold hand grab on to my shoulder.  Definatly wasn't very fun, and hard to explain in a forum :)

I still get chills when I drive by that place, but glad my friend moved out a few years ago.  Whoever bought it can have it.

If I was going to write about all the strange *crapola* that has happened to my family and friends, it would take a few months.

My cousin, he has been thought to be haunted for his entire life. He doesn't like the dark, he doesn't like to be alone at all, and strange things have always happened when you're around him, one being if you slept at his house, in a locked room, when you woke up the next day, all your money would be stacked into corresponding piles, so 10 cent pieces were stacked together, and 20 cent pieces. etc. (whether you had it in your wallet or not), your shoes would be cleaned and shined and placed beside the bed in a neat fashion. Many people have also claimed that sometimes they have heard gasping in the middle of the night, and when they investigated the noise, they came across my cousin, standing in the middle of the room, clutching at his throat, screaming with his eyes open as if something was trying to choke him. A few seconds after they enter the room, it stops.

One of my friends houses, which was built back in the time when our town was still a coal mining town, had been believed to be haunted by people who lived nearby it. Considering how freaky it gets in there at night, its no wonder. We had been sitting about in the kitchen, playing with a deck of cards, and after a while, we began to just choose cards at random. We'd be shuffling and then pick one... always the 8 of Spades. This went on for over half an hour, every time we picked a card, 8 of Spades. Didn't matter how we chose cards, behind the other persons back, from under the table, from a few placed on the table... every time, 8 of Spades.

We decided not to keep playing that game, and went to play some Blackjack between the two of us. First card he deals me... 8 of Spades. We decided that it was probably best to go to bed at that point.

Another time at that same place, we were sitting in his lounge room, when at the kitchen door, a knife fell onto the floor by the door. The door is on the opposite side of where the knife was, because we had put it in the sink after having something to eat. Another time, the back door started shaking uncontrolably like someone was outside shaking it trying to open it and come inside. We went to the door, and it suddenly stopped. We opened it, looked outside and about the house, nothing. Went back inside, went to the loungeroom again... it starts again. He moved out of that place soon after that time.

Thats all I can write at the moment, because my keyboard is having a seizure right now is trying to say "I don't want to work anymore, unless I get $50"...

I believe in them completely. I also believe they r here to hurt us. Ever seen that movie White Noise. I pretty much believe that most ghosts are like the shadowy beings. :)
Pi stinks, tastes horribles, and I hate it! But cake is good...

If there is a choice to become a ghost, I would grab it. No doubt.

I don't really reply much to AR topics (hardly ever even read them), but I can't let this one pass (hehehe - We're ready to believe you).

Well it is a physical fact that energy can not be destroyed - it simply takes on a different form - right?
So if you think about it - every single thought you ever had is basically an electrical impulse (energy). Until you're alive these impulses are stacked away in your brain and that basically means you're storing energy (that's what memory is more or less - like storing electricity in a batery - more or less).
So after you die what happens to that energy? Does it remein in the brain and gets transformed when the brain rotts or is it reliesed?

Please say you belive it's reliesed and can become a ghost. Otherwise this guy below will loose his job!

Hm, this reminds me of a similar topic in the Abandonia forum.

There I explained that anyone can see ghosts if they create the correct circumstances: late at night, open curtains, look at window in mirror untill you start to feel sleepy and you will guaranteedly see something... Though I don't believe in ghosts I never tried this because I read too many ghost stories in my early childhood so I'll never look at windows at night that have open curtains. And certainly not via a mirror.

The stories Puffin told were inspiring and chilling at once. I will believe those children saw and inter acted with some unknown force of nature. Perhaps those children are in reality paranormal or clairvoyant?
