I love Civ, but, anything programmed in Java sucks *money-maker*!

Why stands under the requirements section of the review only "Windows or Mac OS X"?
Actually, it also exists for Linux.....
Not on the project page, that's true, but you may find binaries on other sites, like here.
The reason for this is that you would have to compile it for at least all the different main distributions. They spare themselves this work and just release the source code.

Many distributions create their own compiled packages of this game then.
Sorry about that, I only looked at the Downloads page.
And now I noticed they have a MORE Downloads page. And that's a bloody lot of OSes

Very good question. the technical requirements are incorrect more often than any other information I've found, so feel free to tell us about it and we'll change it.

EDIT: Like that.

It's quite possible, actually. Just put the pikeman in a tree and have him wait for the tank to pass underneath. Then have him drop down, open the hatches and impale the tank-crew. Simple, really :D

Not a bug that, always been a feature. Actually, it's a lot less common in the earlier versions because the units' chances of winning a combat round are not affected by their hitpoints, unlike in Civ4 where wounded units are at a big disadvantage, so a heavily damaged tank is quite likely to get splatted by a healthy spearman or something, but a healthy tank will never lose that combat.
