Looks like you decided to buck the traditional @ = people, eh? :wall:

Keep it up! :ok: I have a feeling this'll be making its way into my collection of text-ish games...

Yeah, I tried using the '@' for people, but it was just too big. It looked odd when characters were as large as your ship. :ok:

I think you'll find she meant she doesn't play space sim-type games - most of us at AR are pretty au fait with ASCII :ok:
Ahhh, okay then. Well, if I can convert a player to space sim games, then even better! :wall:
Actually it looks pretty tempting to me as well - and I've never played a space sim in my life.:) Very cool way of making use of the ASCII graphics.

Incidentally, if you've ot already seen it, Dwarf Fortress is an amazing example of the power of text graphics you might want to look at, plus it's a great game in its own right.
I downloaded Dwarf Fortress and gave it a try. I must say, that intro is some of the most impressive ASCII art/animation I've ever seen in a game!

However, I've not really gotten into the game, as it seems to have a pretty steep learning curve and I'd rather spend my time developing/programming my own game... :)

Just one word from me:

A W E S O M E!

I'll keep both thumbs squeezed, since privateer still is one of my all-time faves EVERRRRRRRR.

Just a side note:
Anyone noticed how many "ascii-conversions" of classic games spring up at the moment? I mean, DooM RL, DiabloRL (even though it has yet to progress beyond demo status), Castlevania RL... And now Ascii-Privateer? I'm in seventh heaven :)
Aw crap, I'm bloggified!

I'm now close to releasing version 0.1 of Privateer: Ascii Sector to the public, but I need to do some beta testing first. So, if you'd like to beta test the game for me, please go here and post your system specs in the "Beta Testing" forum and PM me your email address. I still need 5-8 beta testers.

The game runs in DOS, Windows and DOSBox, by the way...
