Smileys can be a great tool, if put to the proper use. They can enhance the meaning of your sentences or showcase your own emotions, or simply be extremelly funny.

But... smileys can also be annoying and outright spamming, so a few general rules need to be said:
  • Don't make posts that consists purely of smileys!
    It is annoying and considered spamming.

  • Don't place several identical smileys in the same post!
    One smiley is enough for every emotion. Using more is just annoying for everyone else.
The latter is often the result when a new member asks for help, and discovers the :angel: smiley. Using one such smiley alongside your post is more than enough. Placing more won't make people want to help you with your problem. Most likely they'll just go away, or tell you to stop with the smiley-abuse.

Smileys are meant to complement and enhance your posts, not be the main focus.
