I've been going through some sites with quotes of different cultures (especially native American quotes) tonight, and they made me start thinking and inspired me. These're the ones that appeal most to me:

Quote

Treat the earth well:
It was not given to you by your parents,
It was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our
Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.
Ancient Indian Proverb

Quote

All things in the world are two. In our mind we are two -- good and evil. With our eyes we see two things....things that are fair and things that are ugly....we have the right hand that strikes and makes for evil, and the left hand full of kindness, near the heart. One foot may lead us to an evil way, the other foot may lead us to a good. So are all things two, all two.
Eagle Chief (Letakots-Lesa) Pawnee

Quote

There is a road in the hearts of all of us, hidden and seldom traveled, which leads to an unkown, secret place. The old people came literally to love the soil, and they sat or reclined on the ground with a feeling of being close to a mothering power. Their teepees were built upon the earth and their altar's were made of earth. The soul was soothing, strengthening, cleansing and healing. That is why the old Indian still sits upon the earth instead of propping himself up and away from its life giving forces. For him, to sit or lie upon the ground is to be able to think more deeply and to feel more keenly. He can see more clearly into the mysteries of life and come closer in kinship to other lives about him.
Chief Luther Standing Bear

Quote

If the white man wants to live in peace with the Indian, he can live in peace....Treat all men alike. Give them all the same law. Give them all an even chance to live and grow. All men were made by the same Great Spirit Chief. They are all brothers. The Earth is the mother of all people, and all people should have equal rights upon it....Let me be a free man, free to travel, free to stop, free to work, free to trade....free to choose my own teachers, free to follow the religion of my fathers, free to think and talk and act for myself, and I will obey every law, or submit to the penalty.
Heinmot Tooyalaket "Chief Joseph" Nez Perce

Now, which quotes appeal most to you? And if you can say why, why? (I'm sorry, but I don't know why these appeal to me. They just do, and more than the others)

Sun Tzu, on The Art of War, said:

18.  All warfare is based on deception.
19.  Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable;  when
using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near,  we
must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away,  we
must make him believe we are near.

This is the basis of all my Laser Squad Nemesis games. And it does work really good.

Some Marxism:

Quote

    * Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others.
    * I would never join a club that would have me as a member
    * I never forget a face, but in your case I'll be glad to make an exception.
    * Now there's a man with an open mind - you can feel the breeze from here.
    * A man is as old as the women he feels.
    * Anyone who says he can see through women is missing a lot.
    * She got her looks from her father. He's a plastic surgeon.
    * Military intelligence is a contradiction in terms.
    * Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog,
      it's too dark to read.
    * I worked myself up from nothing to a state of extreme poverty.
    * Behind every successful man is a woman, behind her is his wife.
    * I've got a good mind to join a club and beat you over the head with it.
    * You're heading for a breakdown. Why don't you pull yourself to pieces?
    * Why should I care about posterity? What's posterity ever done for me?
    * I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it.
by Groucho Marx

To many to list: Mark Twain's Quotations

I'd post some of mine, but I somehow doubt they're as profound.
