Present/Future story idea
Great soundtrack
Use of movie clips

Repetitive action

It’s time to step into the armour of one of the most well known destructive machines of the future, that’s right Robocop. This former police officer known as Alex J. Murphy, was murdered on duty and an idea by the OCP was suggested to turn this former officer into a deadly cyborg. Which is what happened and although memory wipes were attempted, Murphy still remembers his murder and in his first mission, he went off to find who murdered him. However, times have changed and now Robocop is thrust into this next mission with even more dire consequences and troubles in store, but will he succeed? That is the ultimate question. In Robocop2D 2: Robocop vs. Terminator, what you see is a really excellent action type of game where you will fight a lot of bad guys, with many different weapons, a great soundtrack and even the use of movie clips, based on the events of the game, plus just a really long game in terms of length, make this a really interesting game.

The general start of the storyline is that Robocop comes under heavy fire from an individual from an alleyway. However, this is no normal criminal, as Robocop soon discovers, this individual is more machine than man. It is the terminator, who has been programmed by Skynet, to not destroy Robocop, but has a greater plan in store for him. The plan is to send Robocop to the future, where Skynet, a powerful CPU, that plans to use the idea of how Robocop was created and create a new group of terminators with the brains of soldiers. As Robocop travels, he will get involved and learn more about this plot.

The controls for the game and options are available right when you start the game, by pressing o to activate the option menu, you can set up everything from graphics, controls and other effects, so get tweaking before you start the game. The game looks really nice overall have to mention, although the game uses a mostly dark color scheme, and sometimes reuses similar environments it looks awesome as you play. The characters themselves also look nicely made as it all comes together. As you start playing the game is a throwback to the games of the past, where the goal is simply shooting anything that moves. That is Robocop’s way in this game, anyone that poses a threat will have to be taken down. You have many different weapons to accomplish the task, from your normal weapon, to power bullets, triple spread bullets, and even a laser you can collect later on. You will also be able to collect different upgrades for Robocop, shown as gold and silver coins. These coins will upgrade his systems and improve his overclock ability, which slows down time, and gives Robocop better aiming and speed.

The soundtrack I thought was also perfectly executed. The different music and sound effects that you would expect from Robocop are present, as well as the different grunts and just general destruction is all here. You will also hear Robocop say some of his trademark lines as the action unfolds, to scare those punks from messing with him. The game also includes some movie clips like the first game did. The movie clips are short but they add to the whole experience of the game.

The problem with the game which some people may not like is that the game play is just one action, shooting the bad guys over and over. There is no other variety to the game play, just shooting whatever moves basically and trying not to die, a throwback though to the games that used to be like that, so can understand why the developer may have wanted to pursue this route with the game. The difficulty as well can be a bit daunting at times, especially on the harder difficulties, so this game will give you a challenge no question.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this game for what it offered and if you are a fan of this type of game, definitely try it out and see for yourself. It’s called Robocop2D 2: Robocop vs. Terminator, check it out.
